Procedures and Policies

Plano Children's Theatre/ McKinney Youth Theatre

Thank you for taking part in our program. We look forward to an educational and exciting semester. The following are the PCT/ MYT’s procedures and policies. If you have any questions, please call Sara Akers at (972) 422-2575.

  1. Roles are cast on talent and previous performing history. Roles are not cast on the basis of color, height, ethnicity, or size.
  2. Tuition may be paid in full or in four to six installments. We accept checks, money orders, and all major credit cards. If you need a longer payment schedule, please contact the office.
  3. Please arrive and depart on time. Parents who are more than five minutes late will be assessed $1 a minute fee.
  4. Most roles (especially major) are double cast to accommodate school and family conflicts. Please give your teacher in writing all conflicts with rehearsals and performances.
  5. Students learn their lines at home with parents. Lines must be learned in order to be in the final productions.
  6. Elementary classes have two performances. Upper school performance vary per title. Actors are asked to be in as many performances as possible.
  7. In major productions, parents and students build the set. Parents and students must volunteer at least four hours during set build.
  8. In major productions, each family is required to sell or buy at least fifteen tickets ($105). Ticket orders and money must be turned in to the ticket parent before opening night. The top three ticket sellers ($$) win a $120 scholarship towards their next semester’s tuition at PCT/MYT.
  9. On days in which there are two performances (mostly on Saturdays), please make arrangements for your youth between performances. In the past, parents have allowed their youth (along with other actors) to walk over to Country Burger or McDonald’s for dinner.
  10. Appropriate behavior in class, backstage, and onstage is expected of all students. Students who are disrespectful of the teacher or others will be asked to leave.
  11. During rehearsals, constructive criticism will be given to actors. The purpose of such criticism is to help an actor improve his/her performance. The director may demonstrate desired action or tell an actor what areas need to be addressed.
  12. Phones are used for emergencies only. Do not dial “911” unless there is a real emergency. Dialing for “melodramatic” reasons jeopardizes your continued participation in our program
  13. Modest clothing is required of all students. Please wear jazz, character, or dance shoes, or tennis shoes.
  14. Students may check out costumes from PCT for use in their production. Costumes must be returned at the end of the production.
  15. Monthly payments need to be placed in tuition hole in the administrative offices. .
  16. Plano Children’s Theatre follows PISD school calendar. McKinney Youth Theatre follows MISD calendar. There are no classes during major holidays.
